The Boathouse

Set on an idyllic lake, this boathouse is part of a large estate where we also re-furbished the main house for longstanding clients. Previously dark and austere, we refurbished the interior as a convivial setting for chef demonstrations using produce grown on the estate. This is where guests can also enjoy a drink when they arrive at the estate. A new, open-plan kitchen designed around an island and made from a mix of fumed oak with marble countertops was designed with a cosy bedroom tucked in to the mezzanine floor above for short stays. The layout was re-organised to capitalise on the views.

“The walls were painted dark grey; the furniture was too bulky with brown leather upholstery, and there was a small kitchen that wasn’t functional. I knew that the space needed to be lighter to create a continuity of surrounding nature and that the layout needed to change to work around the lake views and a more prominent, social and functional kitchen.” Murude
